The search for a perfect way to travel.

I have started the let us buy a trailer campaign. Please understand, I think Reno is beautiful and the Texas Hill country was divine. Yet, I think this apartment is yucky.  I know. I know. A trailer will be small. The kitchen might be chintzy.  But I don't like rental furniture and worse rental silverware.  I can't explain it except to say, I am a homemaker. I want my own nest to call home. If it isn't working, I wanna be able to fix it and not wait on busy maintenance people who act like I'm picky cause the drain has backed up for the 10th time.  It is OK and I am practical. So, I will  PAY for it wisely.  Does anybody have any advice about living full time in a rv with your kids.

  1. Congrats on taking that step into the wide world of RVing. Sometimes it's great but it does have it's drawbacks. If you aren't an "outside" kind of family RVing will completely smother you. The walls close in and you feel like your on top of each other. We seemed to find that happy medium though. We tried to pick places that had plenty of space outside for us to play or hangout. Even during school we would try to take it outside some days just for a change.

I can completely agree with you about using someone else's things to live. It is great to have your own appliances (even if they are small), your own dishes, and even able to semi-decorate. We have a small RV. It is only a 32 foot with one slide. Our kids share a bunkroom that is very tiny. They have their moments where they can't stand the other breathing the same air. We are very close being in the RV and although I've had my own moments of aggrivation I can honestly say that we wouldn't be this close knit without making this transition.

Here's some advise about being on the road in an RV: 1) make sure your kids have plenty of activities to do outside; 2)have two spare tires; 3)a seperate water hose; 4) small shop vac; 5)and you can minimize more than you think you can.

You can check out RV styles at www.funtimerv.com then you can see what you like and don't like. Happy hunting!!

  3. Hi Heather

Popped over from FOTR. We live/work/travel with a carnival in the Pacific Northwest.

I don't have any advice traveling with kids on the road as we are a grandma & grandpa traveling and working. But we have 3 great grandkids and one of them has traveled a little with us. It is a great life. Check out FOTR and ask lots of questions on the forum. There is lots of experience out there.

Feel free to check out my blog to read all about our adventures. I too love the Lord and enjoy sharing about his greatness in my life.

Hope you are having a blessed day.

  4. Hey, Mum, I didn't read all of the comments, but I do have to tell you this before I forget: Our toilets in my berthing on the ship backed up nearly every day of deployment.... It was ridiculous... And when we got back to Hawaii, it was so bad that they locked our bathroom, so I ended up taking a shower at a friends house... Talk about yuck!! I'll have more stories when I get there! Hahaha!
